Tulip Time 2025 Entry: A Love Letter in Layers
This vibrant, playful painting was one of three pieces I created for the 2025 Tulip Time Poster Competition — and I was honored to have it selected among the Top 20 finalists, alongside another piece titled “Sweet Grass and Tulip Fields,” which found a new home during this year’s festival.
This particular work holds a special place in my heart. Woven into its bright layers of spring florals are echoes of The Wizard of Oz — a subtle nod to L. Frank Baum, who, like many enchanted travelers, spent his summers along the Michigan lakeshore near Lake Macatawa. It’s said this charming corner of Holland left an impression on him, and I wanted to capture that same sense of wonder and affection for this town in my own way.
It’s a celebration of place, memory, and magic — and above all, a joyful tribute to Holland in full bloom.
