Mood Palettes - 3 of my favorite greens for spring
Mood Palette Series: Creating Energy with Green
Color has the power to completely shift how a space feels—emotionally, physically, and even energetically. As artists and creatives, we intuitively understand this, but bringing that awareness into our everyday spaces is where the magic really happens.
For spring, green is the perfect place to begin. It symbolizes renewal, growth, and grounded energy. But not all greens feel the same. By choosing specific variations, you can intentionally shape the mood of a room.
Let’s explore three distinct greens—chartreuse, celadon, and olive—and how to use them to create different energies in your space.
1. Chartreuse: Bold Energy + Creative Awakening
When used in the right places, it creates vitality, movement and energy
How it feels:
Fresh, stimulating, playful, creative
Where to use it:
Studios, creative corners, entryways, or anywhere you want a spark of inspiration
Ways to incorporate:
Accent pillows or throws
A statement chair or painted stool
Small pops in artwork or brushstrokes
Fresh florals with bright green tones
A little goes a long way here. Think of chartreuse as a highlight color—like the final mark that brings a painting to life.
2. Celadon: Calm + Airy Serenity
Celadon is a soft, pale green with subtle gray or blue undertones. It carries a quiet, peaceful energy—perfect for creating a sense of calm and openness.
How it feels:
Light, serene, restorative, gentle
Where to use it:
Bedrooms, bathrooms, reading nooks, or meditation spaces
Ways to incorporate:
Wall color for a soft, enveloping backdrop
Linen bedding or curtains
Ceramic pieces or vases
Layered textiles in similar muted tones
Celadon works beautifully when layered. It creates a tone-on-tone effect that feels cohesive and soothing, like a deep exhale.
3. Olive Green: Grounded + Earthy Depth
Olive green brings in warmth and stability. With its brown undertones, it connects us to the earth and creates a feeling of comfort and depth.
I love how it allows magenta — or even pure white — to sing, creating striking focal points and elegant accent moments throughout a space.
How it feels:
Grounded, cozy, natural, strong
Where to use it:
Living rooms, kitchens, offices, or spaces where you gather and connect
Ways to incorporate:
Upholstered furniture like sofas or dining chairs
Wood pairings (especially walnut or oak)
Vintage or antique decor accents
Layered with neutrals like cream, tan, and rust
Olive green anchors a space. It’s a beautiful choice when you want your home to feel lived-in, warm, and rooted.
Bringing It All Together
You don’t have to choose just one. These greens can coexist beautifully when used with intention:
Chartreuse for energy
Celadon for breathability
Olive for grounding
Think of your home like a composition—each room holding its own emotional tone, while still feeling connected as a whole.
Spring is an invitation to refresh not just your surroundings, but your energy. Start small. A pillow, a painting, a new textile. Let color guide you.
And most importantly—trust your instinct. You already know what feels good.
